This annual Yoga Sanctuary Fundraiser is open to all
yogis and yoginis to start the New Year Right – with 108 Sun
Salutations based on the Ashtanga Yoga System.
Delivered in an accessible way to all levels of
practitioners, this event will lay the foundation for a
healthy and positive New Year. Join us for this brilliant
meditative practice that challenges both the body and the
mind.
108 has many sacred connotations in various cultures and
philosophies. Renowned mathematicians of Vedic culture viewed
108 as a number of the wholeness of existence. This number
also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance
of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective
diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of
ritual significance.
According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or
sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108
Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body.
Often practiced to welcome the seasons, we will be
offering this celebratory event to welcome 2011.

The
Ride for Mental Health is over, but the work continues on!
After
103 days and 7587 km. Mel Thompson finally
dipped the wheels of his bike into the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday August 29th in
St. John’s
Newfoundland
. Although the
Ride has now been completed, the challenge of raising
awareness and dispelling stigma is still very much on the
agenda for the Thompson family.

Holiday Gift Program
Each holiday season, CMHA Toronto’s Holiday Gift Program
provides more than 6,300 gifts to men, women and teens, as
well as 300 children whose parents are recovering from mental
illness. Now in
its 53rd year, our program is unique in that every
dollar donated goes directly to the purchase of the gifts.
Every $22 you donate purchases one gift for someone
recovering from mental illness.
Together, we can turn a black and white holiday season
into living colour for those recovering from mental illness in
our community.
