Participants in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) are equipped with the skills, resources, and assurance needed to recognise and respond to a mental health issue or emergency. The Youth certificate program includes additional topics of eating disorders and self harming behaviours. The Mental Health Commission of Canada will issue a certificate to the student if they successfully complete the programme.
Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize warning signals of a mental health crisis or deterioration
- Have conversations to urge the young person to discuss their deteriorating mental health and consider their support choices
- Utilize MHFA strategies to maintain one’s own mental health
- Connect the person to support resources
- Assist in the event of a mental health or substance use emergency
Format: MHFA Youth (Virtual); Module 1: Self-Directed and Module 2 & 3: Virtual classroom
Length: 10 hours. Self-paced Module 1 must be finished prior to the in-person portion. Module 2 and 3 are done in a virtual classroom setting. Typically, the online portion is split into two half days worth of learning. Link to the online classroom will be sent at time of registration.
