The Mental Health and Justice Crisis Prevention Program seeks to reduce the risk of criminal arrest by linking individuals to mental health and other services and, where needed, by providing short-term case management and community support.
MHJ Crisis Prevention Services
provide community support and consultation to individuals 16 years of age or older who have a mental health concern and:
• are at risk of incurring criminal charges, or
• are currently facing criminal charges, or
• have recently had charges before the courts.
This program seeks to reduce the risk of criminal arrest by linking individuals to mental health and other services and, where needed, by providing short-term case management and community support. Participation in the program is voluntary. Individuals may be referred by police, probation services and court personnel. Referrals may also be made by service providers, family or the individual. The Mental Health and Justice Crisis Prevention Program is part of a larger, coordinated system of service for individuals with mental illness who are at significant risk of coming into conflict with the criminal justice system.
